Automechanic by Jenny O.

“Automechanic is metaphor for taking the wheel, self sufficiency and the courage of artistic honesty.” That’s how Sam James Velde describe’s singer songwriter Jenny O’s second album “Automechanic” scheduled for Feb. 5 release on Holy Trinity. Listen to the title track and hear the rumble of a Chevy 454 motor.

She told MTV, ““A few years ago, I decided that learning to fix cars was the answer to many things. This is song is about the pursuit.”
In the recording process she said that they, “did two or three takes, added more stuff like guitar and background vocals,”and then brought in “genuine automobile engines and power tools” to make the lyrics feel more authentic. We had to run some cable [to get the effect],” she said. “Our engineer Bryce Gonzales put contact mics in the exhaust manifold of a blown-out 454 Rat Motor.”

Jenny O’s interest in cars is more than skin deep. She tweeted “The entire right-side of my youtube suggests How-tos on engine heating/cooling and Grateful Dead live videos.”

We like the dreamy lyrics on her lead single:

I had a similar dream
My dream was real though
I left my body in the bed.
I took my clutch and pipe
Climbed out the window
And I was something else instead.

Automechanic
I never worry
I have a garden and a radio.
Made all my own tools
Minding my business
Trade you a tune for some gasoline.

Out in the country I met a good man
Found my body in the bed.
We traveled far and wide
In some of my favorite rides
Working on engines and making them run again.

Now I’m a farmer
Praying for rain
But we have the children and the radio.
Made all my own tools
Minding my business
Trade you a tune for some gasoline.
Automechanic
I never worry
I have a garden and a radio.
