Car of the Day: 2013 BMW 740Li XDrive Sedan
Where I drove it: New York City
First Impressions: Even if you don’t like weddings, there’s something about a crispy wedding cake that catches the eye and inspires some sort of internal salivation. Such is an alpine white BMW 7 series. It’s considerable proportions have a grace, even when in static mode. It’s more like the Ice-capades when this slippery sedan makes it moves — just smooth all around.
Second date: My goodness. The BMW 7 is a cocoon that wraps you up in the spacious interior and let’s you soar skyward. The form-fitted options snuggle up seductively around its passengers. If you’re looking for straight forward luxury and a stacked technology, here is a willing accomplice. The safety features are considerable, comfort abounds. It’s a big body sedan that manages to feel modern and agile.
MPG: 22 miles per gallon
Extras: Chances are you will get the packages if you’re in the market for the big 7. Here’s what I found on mine: The executive package (power liftgate, softclose doors, front ventilated seats, head up display, Bang & Olufson stereo, , driver assist package (active blind spot, side and top cameras, smart phone integration, BMW apps), and the $4,600 M Sport Package (19 inch M light alloy V spoke, aerodynamic kit, shadowline exterior trim, anthracite headliner, m steering wheel with paddles) and rear seat entertainment package.
Under the Hood: 3.0 liter twinpower turbo inline 6. It produces 315 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.
