About us

Gotryke launched in fall 2007 over a conversation at a Brooklyn watering hole between two friends about lifestyle, creativity and good ideas. Founders Chuck Gibson and Tamara Warren knew they were taking a chance by creating a digital space that wasn’t easily defined as the average car, design or lifestyle blog, but they knew they were onto something when the ideas began to flow as they mapped out the road ahead.

Tamara is a seasoned music and car writer, and Chuck is an established designer, art director and music producer.  To develop their blog, they simply would do what came naturally. As Detroit natives, cars and music play heavily into how they view the world and Gotryke would serve an outlet for this creative expression.

Three years later, and over three hundred original posts deep, Gotryke has taken on a journey of its own. Its a virtual nook that a discerning audience seeks out for cool bits of information about cars, design, and society. In fact, Gotryke became something so revered that some individuals sought out to destroy it with malicious codes, and for two tenuous July 2010 weeks, the Gotryke concept seemed fragile.

But that act was the impetus for the new Gotryke, where ideas are more accessible, where the content broadens and incorporates more of what Gotryke contributors know best: How art, style and getting around intersect. With an all new look, the insightful ideas are easier to find and share. Here is the coveted work of real writers, artists and original thinkers, just clicks away.

While you’ll see a new side of GoTryke, the core of what drove Chuck and Tamara to create this abstract website is intact:  Gotryke is movement for a time where the journey is being constantly reinvented and where social responsibility and fun don’t have to be at odds. Gotryke is about the relationship between design, cars, fashion, art, cycles, travel, music, and pop culture reflected in these movements.  GoTryke is a dissection of the road that stretches from rural America, to busy bustling cities, to thoroughfares around the world. It’s about paying attention, and sometimes breaking the rules. GoTryke is where we’ve been. GoTryke is where are we are now. GoTryke is where we are going.

    Dear Madam/Sir
My name is Sonia and I am working within the marketing team of my client, with the objective to help promote new and used cars.
Through searching the internet I found your website and believe the content to be relevant and useful to my client’s target audience. As part of a program of online marketing activity I am ideally looking for a placement for a widget on your website http://gotryke.com

I can pay you for the Widget space each month or I am able to pay for this advertising space quarterly with the first instalment upfront once the advertisement is live and we have approved it.

I would be most grateful if you could respond and let me know if this is something in which you would be interested and I can send you further details on how I would like to proceed.

I will look forward to your reply.

    Dear Gotryke Team,

I am writing to you to ask if you could give me your contact information for future reference. I am a student at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI and I (and my Program Director, Keith Nagara) would like to be able to contact you in the near future, so that you may be able to cover my classmate’s concepts, or other events that we might host. We are a young program going into our 5th year, however we are making headway throughout the industry and we would like to know if you would like to partner with us to help promote our students / program. I am not sure whether or not you have any editorials on student work, or if you are mainly industry focused. However, we do host industry events, MAIN Event, Eve of Eyes On Design, etc, to name a few, and you would be more than welcome to attend.

Please let me know if you are interested via e-mail, and I hope to talk to you soon.

I can give you more information on our students and events at a later date, but contact info or another means of contact for this type of publication would help us greatly.

    Cheers,

    Kyle Robie

  3. Hello again Tamara. It has been way to long. Nice to see you are staying busy and I am sure the mild winter in New York has been appreciated as it has been here in the greater Detroit region of the Midwest. Just wanted to report that all is fantastic at Ford. Also my beautiful wife Debbie has beaten the insanely difficult but defeatable breast cancer that was diagnosed last March. Please pass along that this disease can be cured with great care from wonderful doctors like the ones at U of M Ann Arbor, and more importantly with the love of family and friends that we can never discount.

Our team is really interested in working with an already-established auto blogger to guest post on our new blog (not yet launched) highlighting various aspects of today’s cars. Can one of you please contact me to discuss further?

I work for Tag: Worldwide and with Spark44 — the production and creative agencies for Jaguar. We are preparing materials for the NYC Auto Show and would like to use one of your quotes from an article you wrote for Forbes.com on the XKR/XKR-S. Would you be so kind as to email me so I can give you the full details of our project/idea?
Thanks! Keep up the good work!

  7. Good Evening,

I’m writing you a quick note today to introduce you to our Sears Love/Hate Project – Share Your Thoughts, Send Some Love: budurl.com/searscharities. It’s a project we’re running with Sears that will give nearly $150,000 to four deserving charities:
    American Cancer Society
    St. Jude
    World Vision
    World Wildlife Fund

I think your Gotryke followers would be really interested in this project and I’d love to send some more information. Would you please send me your contact info so I can forward you a PDF on the campaign?

Helping charity is as easy as posting to your blog, Facebook or Twitter page.

Sears launched the Love/Hate Project for you to ‘Share Your Thoughts and Send Some Love’ to four deserving charities. They’ve already given away $8,000 to World Vision.

They’re down to the final three: American Cancer Society, St. Jude, or World Wildlife Fund could win $100,000.

Voting ends this Thursday at 11:59pm. On Friday, one of these charities will win $ Any way you can help get the word out to more people, the better chance your favorite charity will have to earn more votes!

  10. Hey lads.

We just announced our first online luxury car auction at BidSociety.com today which employs a format profoundly different from any employed by similar online auction websites.  Auction Passes, which permit auction bidders to bid as many times at they wish for a brand new tungsten pearl-colored Lexus IS250 will go on sales this Saturday at 7:00 pm Pacific Time. The no-reserve online auction will then be held on Sunday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m.

The winner is expected to save 40-45% off MSRP, and even non-winning Auction Pass holders are entitled to save $1,500 off the MSRP of any new car at Magnussen’s Lexus of Fremont. In the Motor City? No sweat, our dealers will ship your new car anywhere you need it.

Our press release is below. Please contact me by phone at (845) 382-9970 or email at d.andrews@bidsociety.com for more information or an immediate interview.

Online Luxury Car Auctions with No Reserve, Single Fee Get Rolling at BidSociety.com

BidSociety.com expects its breakthrough auction model to save buyers 45 to 50 percent off the manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP). Auction passes go on sale December 1, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

San Francisco, CA – BidSociety.com announced today its first online luxury car auction using an innovative model that eliminates minimum sale (reserve) prices and introduces a single-fee “Auction Pass,” which allows each bidder to place unlimited bids.

Auction passes for a gorgeous, new tungsten pearl Lexus IS250 four-door sedan go on sale this Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time for $15 at http://www.BidSociety.com.

The Lexus IS250 online auction will then commence on Sunday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. Pacific time, and is expected to last 60 to 90 minutes. The second two cars will be announced shortly thereafter.

“Pay-per-bid schemes and high reserve prices have turned-off many luxury car enthusiasts from purchasing their cars through online car auctions,” says BidSociety CEO David Andrews. “Our model makes the buying process fun and rewarding. We expect buyers to save 45 to 50 percent off the MSRP of each auctioned vehicle.”

After the auction begins, the BidSociety system gives each bidder one minute to place a competitive bid. The clock will reset each time a bid is placed. When 60 seconds pass without a bid, the highest bidder wins the vehicle.

The winning bidder is not required to put any money down, and can lease or finance the cost of the vehicle on approved credit (OAC) with the dealer. Those who don’t win a vehicle on BidSociety can use their Auction Pass number to receive $1,500 off the MSRP of any new car at Magnussen’s Lexus of Fremont.

“This model enables anyone to purchase a luxury vehicle for the price of a regular car,” said Bo Magnussen, CEO of Magnussen’s Lexus of Fremont. “Those who have wanted a true luxury vehicle, but have never been able to purchase one, will now have a shot.”
For more information, including the auction schedule, please go to: http://www.bidsociety.com
