Gold Coast Trading x 23 Tribes

Have I mentioned my fondness for Emeka Alams’ Gold Coast Trading Company yet? I’ve been following the design developments for over a year now, and I admire the way GCTC is  branding itself - a little mystery, a lot of details, and always an overwhelming sense of origin. It’s a beautiful new take on global street wear, and in this case, a melding of cultural craftsmanship. Aztec mocs, lined with African wax cloth (via Europe, usually),... Read More

Mary HK Choi on Men Dresssing Well

Found this brilliant sartorial essay on Facebook via Leah Taylor, who found it on The Awl’s new sister blog The Hairpin. Within the first two sentences, I became officially obsessed with author Mary HK Choi. Former Exec Editor of Mass Appeal, Founder of it’s now-defunct sister mag Missbehave, and current Senior Editor of Complex, Choi has probably already made twenty people laugh this morning. Thank you for introducing me to the term “dickroll”.... Read More

NY Fashion Week – The Model Lounge from TangentVector, inc.™ on Vimeo. It’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Where do the models go? You might see them slip out of Porsche Panamera into the newly opened Gaansevoort Hotel off Park Ave. That’s the location of the Model Lounge, which is just that a private area for models to cool out between shows and casting. Mod Dragsters in Vogue

The NHRA meets Vogue Magazine circa 1967 for this track side shoot at Irwindale Raceway in California. The Christmas Tree, a drag term for starting line lights, clocks the dragsters at 290 mph as models stand dangerously nearby.  The clothes are Michael Mott for Paraphernalia, who took over for Betsey Johnson in the youthful oriented American design house. The vintage dress was full-blown mod in the height of 60s cool with silver boots by Herbert... Read More

tote USA : J. Panther Luggage

I have to admit I’m a bit of a bag nut. I have tons of bags, carry on’s, and backpacks that last from season to season. For a while my taste and style were mostly Jack Spade and Head Porter, but I’ve moved on to American made. These days I’m itching for a bag that has a history or a story I could relate to – enter J. Panther luggage. Johnny Diamandis of J. Panther appreciates the durability of the American bag. “It... Read More

E for Effort Blows Up

This is looooong overdue but better with a late pass than never, right? Earlier this year, two talented artists and printmaking experts - Rachel Ostrow and Beka Goedde - decided to become designers. Armed with a simple “looseleaf” idea,  E for Effort was born, creating a new wardrobe staple for women, men and even babies. Several months and several dozen batches later, the ladies have expanded the line to include totes, onesies, pocket tees,... Read More

Best Dressed: H.H. Sheikha Mozah

I hate uniforms. Any time I need to dress appropriately for work  - whether in an office or on the soccer field - I find it a challenge. There’s something about it that I find . . . stifling. But I’ve got to give it to Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned. The second wife of Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, as well as an innovative and demanding social activist for the small Middle Eastern country, Sheikha... Read More
